Clockwiser: Book 2 in the Clockwise Series

Hi Everyone

I read the first book in this series (you can find the review by searching via the my search box) and quite enjoyed it.  My daughter read it to and we thought we should read the next book.  I wasn't disapointed.  It was a quick read and it also kept my attention.

This book had a little more teen drama to it.  I guess a teen book needs a little of that.  I found it was just the right amount to keep me reading.  It is quite hard to write about this book without spoilers because they are what made the book for me.  Anyway... In this book she takes her brother back in time, and boy is he trouble.  He decides not to go back to his real time and rather enlist in the war.  Mean while back at home his trouble arises when he doesn't come back.  That is all I can tell you about what happens without spoiling the book.  The best part for me was.... (spoiler alert!)

You will just have to take my word for it, if you liked Clockwise then you should also enjoy this one.  If you haven't read Clockwise then maybe you should pick it up!

Happy reading :)

The Key to Rondo

Take a music box, wind it more than three times and take the adventure with Leo and Mimi into the world of Rondo.

What a lovely piece of literature!  It is a book that will grab the attention of any young lady.  It even grabbed my attention, but then again I enjoy children's books.  I wish I had of read more as a child and experienced this kind of novel.  The characters were fill of the imagination of several fairy tales.  As I was reading I could envison the swans and the troll under the bridge.  I took the journey with the two children in the story.  This is when you know the author has presented a wonderful peice of work.

I originally wanted this book because of the cover.  Now I know you are not supposed to choose a book by the cover, but who doesn't?  Really!  In this case the cover was perfect for the story.  It is just how I pictured the queen and the dog.

One of the reviews on the back of the books claims "... the work of a gifted story teller at the height of her power's" Rosemary Neill, Weekender Australian.  She has grasped the wording just right for explaining the writing of this author.

There is a sequel to this novel which I have and intend to read also.  So I will let you know what I think of it when I get a chance to read through my wanted pile.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Author: Ransom Riggs
ISBN: 9781594746031

Here is one that is different.  I  juggled with "Should I read this?  Maybe not."  There were mixed reviews all over goodreads, so I was tied as to read or put away.  The cover got attention, it held mystery.  So, I decided to read it and make my own decision because it is a young adults read and my children are entering this stage.

So, what did I think?  I actually really enjoyed it.  It wasn't too over done with the creepy, which is why I am suspecting some readers didn't like it.  There was just enough suspense to keep reading.  The friendships and generational connections were very well done.  And, the twists and loops were what really made this book readable and interesting for me.

There seems to be a lot of talk about the pictures in this novel.  For me the pictures made the book interesting.  Like being a child reading a picture book, but it was photos that I got to look at.  Where ever these photos came, from is an interesting thought, and the use them was very clever.  It is good see an author has thought outside the box and inserted photos, of this kind, into a novel of this genre.  I am impressed by what the author has achieved here.  If nothing else he has got people talking.

For young adults and adults this book is different, interesting, and quite well done.  My son will enjoy this book.  My daughter... maybe one day.  As for me, yes I did enjoy this one.  I liked the difference the author had given to the writing and presentation of this novel.
